The visit brought cheer and joy to the children when the AUST graduates visited them, bearing gifts. Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Assistant to President for External Relations expressed the importance of these field trips for the alumni and the current graduating batch, these trips integrate the social responsibility into the academic experiences thereby offering comprehensive view of community services.

Al Wafa School for Developmental Training was founded in the early stages of Sharjah City Humanitarian Services (SCHS). The center received disabled children who were unable find any other institution that provided services for them. Due to the increasing number of mentally disabled children, SCHS began a night program in Al Amal Kindergarten & School for the Deaf in 1984. In 1985, SCHS opened the new headquarters of the school, which included three main buildings that provided services for special    education.

Now, there are more than 172 students benefiting from the school's services such as education, therapy, and consultation. Students' range from age 5 to 16. After the age of 16, they are transferred to Vocational Rehabilitation & Training Department. The school offers psychological and social services, train students to use a computer, art education, sports, music, home economics while training their sensory and motor skills.
