Pharmacy College at Ajman University Celebrates World Heart Day
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Ajman University of Science and Technology organized an event to mark the World Heart Day. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Zein Al Abedin, Director Academic and Intellectual Reference Authority; Prof. Ahmed Ankit, Assistant to President Ajman University for External Relations and Cultural Affairs; Dr. Basheer Shehadeh, Assistant to President for Follow-up and Development in the presence of Abdulla Salman, Assistant to Vice-President Ajman University and Prof. Nageeb Hassan, Dean College of Pharmacy and Health Science.
On the sidelines of the event was a poster presentation exhibition detailing the different causes and preventive measures for various heart diseases. The students who displayed exemplary confidence in their knowledge presented the exhibition in a professional manner.
Pof. Nageeb, stressed that it is very important to raise awareness through this drive for it will breed a consciousness amongst the young generation. The exhibition was an awareness campaign to fight heart diseases and their causes.
Attendees were briefed about the various preventive methods and lifestyle changes to be followed. Free glucose and blood pressure tests were conducted on numerous participants who were advised on the appropriate actions to take according to their results. Professional tests were performed for the public to calculate the risk percentage of having cardiovascular diseases.
In addition, a research corner was included in the exhibition which aimed at conducting research considered the first of its kind in UAE to estimate the current knowledge and awareness of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and its risk factors among the general public and university students. This will assist in identifying the factors associated with the knowledge and awareness of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. Prof, Nageeb said, “Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the top of the ten causes of hospital deaths in world. Increasing knowledge and awareness on CVDs and its risk factors are crucial for the prevention of CVDs. Identification of factors which are associated with the knowledge and awareness is important for the proper design of future awareness programs”
A corner was dedicated to the exhibition of an automated AED Plus is a full-rescue AED automatic external defibrillator that provides Real CPR Help to assist rescuers in delivering chest compressions at the correct depth and gives electroshocks to the heart when and if required. Ajman University has 3 Zoll Plus machines for Automatic external defibrillator, on which staff and students have been trained to ensure any emergency can be managed promptly.
Pharmacy college celebration of World Heart Day encourages all to reduce cardiovascular risk by promoting a heart-healthy planet for those around us. There were many ways to get involved, from planning your own World Heart Day event to sharing your Healthy Heart Selfies and practicing sports to be healthy.
Ajman University of Science & Technology supports such initiatives to encourage students to adopt a healthy and conscious lifestyle. This disease is becoming very common and prevalent in our society thus such events and awareness campaigns can help spread the right message.
