AU Students Recognized for Best ‘Green Economy Project’

Ajman University (AU) students have made it happen again and earned top spot in a stiff competition run by the Ajman Tourism Development Department.

The project, billed AquaGreen, was submitted by the students of the College of Architecture, Art and Design in support of sustainable tourism in the emirate of Ajman.

The scheme, designed to be fully powered by solar energy, is entirely run and controlled by smart systems.

It ensures a flexible distribution of indoor event spaces with full respect to the cultural and social aspects of residents.

The pioneering scheme, initially designed to be a residential building, was earlier recognized in the SDME 2018 competition organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in Dubai, October 2018.

The project won two of the first awards in the category of construction implementation and energy management.

The building was later moved to Ajman University campus to be a research center for renewable energy.

The honoring this time is in line with the Government of Ajman passion to support and encourage students and researchers to be more innovative and creative, mainly in timely issues such as sustainability and future engineering.

H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, presented the award to Eng. Sahar Mikki, a faculty member of the supervisory team led by Prof. Sahar Sulaiman.

The winning project saw the participation of AU faculty members and students from different disciplines.
