On Friday, September 30, 2022, Ajman University students proved they are second to none when it comes to solving real-world challenges through coding by competing in the Coding Battle Competition sponsored by ThingLogix. The competition was organized by the IT Club within the Department of Information Technology in cooperation with the Office of Student Life for all undergraduate students at AU. The event sponsor, ThingLogix, is an international company that focuses on helping companies adopt emerging technologies to transform their businesses and customers’ lives and contribute to a better world.
A total of 18 teams participated in the competition: 11 teams comprising 33 male students and 7 teams comprising 21 Female students.
The event was conducted in two rounds. Both rounds were based on problem-solving and programming skills. The judgment parameters were based on the time taken to develop the code with proper indentation of programming.
This event was an excellent opportunity for our young programmers to demonstrate and improve their programming and problem-solving skills. It encouraged undergraduate students to work together and find real-world programming solutions in a collaborative, innovative, and high-pressure environment. Skills demonstrated by coders in the contest included the use of logic, effective coding, and the pace of problem-solving using shorter code.
The competition took place at the AU campus. The 5-hour contest looked for the team who could solve the most problems within languages like C++, C#, Java, or Python.
Three teams were successful in solving all the problems that were assigned to them. These top three teams were awarded cash prizes from the College of Engineering and Information Technology, vouchers, and appreciation certificates by the event sponsor, ThingLogix.
AU’s IT Club is an extracurricular group for students interested in computer programming, and it also includes many Computer Science majors and minors. Run by the students for the students, the IT Club unites students in activities that engage their interests. It helps students gain essential career development skills even while having fun through challenges and workshops conducted on and off-campus.
Club activities include training for coding competitions, practicing cybersecurity capture-the-flag competitions, and community service. The Club is sponsored and coached by the Information Technology department within the College of Engineering and Information Technology in cooperation with Office of Student Life.
