Ajman University Hosts Art Exhibition

Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Emiri Court in Ajman, has opened an art exhibition entitled Arts of East and West. ’The exhibition has been organized by Ajman Department of Culture and Communication in conjunction with Ajman University of Science & Technology (AUST), the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante, Spain, and the Sharjah Institute of Fine Arts. The exhibition’s opening was held in the presence of Thamer Saeed Salman, Vice President Administrative and Financial Affairs at AUST, and Ibrahim Said Dhahiri, General Manager, Department of Culture and Communication.

Sheikh Dr. Majid stated that the consistency of civilization and culture is one of the most prominent features of the exhibition, which combines the styles of a variety of schools of art, reflecting the magic of the East and beauty of the West. The exhibition therefore represents vital cooperation in art, and is able to contribute significantly towards strengthening human dialogue.

In addition, he stated that the color and expression of the works exhibited reflect the horizons of many aspects of human life and enriching the cultural scene in the UAE in general and Ajman in particular.
Mrs. Mona Al Jebali, Supervisor of Arts at AUST, said that AUST students from various colleges and the Sharjah Institute of Fine Arts and their instructors as well as the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alecante have participated in the Exhibition with 45 paintings. She added that the exhibited works cover the schools of modern, expressive, and realistic art, as well as still life.

Mrs. Jebali pointed out that although Spain has many schools of art, this exhibition concentrates on realism, focusing on detail, and on expression, dealing with Spanish women and their lives. For this reason the subject matter concentrates on faces, features and confusion, with each work reflecting feelings. Mrs. Jebali also stated that most of the Spanish work was of the schools of Realism and Expression, with the artists also using advanced techniques related to letters, typography and collage.

Also speaking were Neli Pérez, faculty member of the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alecante and manger of the Lukzart Company for paintings, sculptures and frames in Spain, and a number of Spanish senior students who spoke about their work such as Liliana Leal Albest, Begoña Ricarte Amoros, and Jave Sealtres.

It is worth mentioning that this event is held to mark the UAE’s 38th National Day together with a series of other celebrations organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs in AUST in collaboration with other institutions in Ajman and the UAE.
