Electrical Engineering Students Win Tamaiaz Award for Entrepreneurship and Inventions

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, a ceremony was held in Dubai to honor the winners of Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb Award.

In this ceremony, attended by a large gathering of academicians and professionals, two AUST students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering. were the recipients of the 5th Prize for Entrepreneurship and Inventions.

Walid Khamis and Ahmed Abdulrazaq won this prize for their project entitled “Embedded Speed Violation Recorder”, supervised by Prof. Mustahsan Mir. Their project was recognized for providing an innovative and cost-effective solution to excessive number of fatal accidents in the UAE, due primarily to over-speeding. Unlike conventional RADARs, that monitor the speed of vehicles on a discrete basis, the presented project has been designed to continuously monitor the speed of vehicles on UAE highways and record all speed violations.

Prof. Fahar Hayati, Dean of AUST College of Engineering, congratulated the two engineering students for winning this prize. He also expressed his pride in all engineering students who have won a number of prizes in various nationwide competitions during the current academic year. According to Prof. Hayati, this clearly demonstrates the quality of education and training engineering students receive at AUST.

Prof. Fahar said that talented engineering students are highly contributing in promoting the mission of AUST. In this regard, he also commended the efforts of engineering faculty in developing the culture of competition among engineering students and encouraging them to participate in extracurricular activities.
