“Thamer, a Legacy of Giving” Commemorative Event Leaves Most in Tears

First Endowment Project Close to Completion

A special commemorative event in recognition of, and gratitude to, the legacy of the late Mr. Thamer Salman was organized at Ajman University (AU). The event “Thamer, a legacy of giving” paid homage to the caring nature and visionary leadership that has been etched in the blue print of this University’s history forever.

Chancellor Karim Seghir along with the Vice-Chancellors and Chief Operating Officer welcomed  His Excellency Abdullah Al Mazroui, member of AU Board of Trustees and Former UAE Minister of Justice, His Excellency Salem bin Ahmed Al Nuaimi, member of AU Board of Trustees, Mr. Khalid Abdul Wahab Al Khaja, Director of Dar AL Ber Society in Ajman, Mr. Naser Al Junaibi, Director of Al Ahsan Charity and the three sons of the late Thamer Salman and other honourable guests.

Chancellor Seghir explained that he came to know Thamer (May Allah have Mercy on Him) through the moving words of all those who have worked with him, known him or even briefly acquainted with him. A visionary leader, a man of integrity, and a paragon in humility and caring for others, he made a transformative impact in the lives of so many of AU community members. Paying tribute to his legacy only cements the values of this long-standing University; an institution he loved dearly and served wholeheartedly.

Chancellor Seghir announced that the Thamer Fund was instrumental in assisting 366 bright students overcome the financial hurdles to fulfill their dreams of successfully graduating. He also updated the audience about the remarkable progress made on the residential building being built on the land granted to Thamer Fund by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ajman and Chairman of AU Board of Trustess. The work on this endowed project will be completed in June 2017. The G+4 building houses 26 residential units and four commercial shops with a total cost of 7 million Dirhams.

Chancellor Seghir added that the late Mr. Thamer Salman was also an ardent supporter of research and development for the betterment and sustainable devopment of the UAE. He announced that the University is exploring the establishment of the “Thamer Fund for Research and Development” which will encourage innovation and research.

Dr. Abdul Haq Al Nuaimi, Vice-Chancellor for Advancement and Communication has also shared some long-lasting memories about his collaboration with the late Mr. Thamer. He reiterated the values that the late Thamer held very dear and touched every soul that ever met him, his kindness.

His Excellency Abdullah AL Mazroui, His Excellency Salem bin Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Mr. Khalid Abdul Wahab Al Khaja, Director, Dar AL Ber Society in Ajman, Mr. Naser Al Junaibi, Director, Al Ahsan Charity also expressed their heartfelt experiences. Members of the audience which included students who have completed their Degrees’ with the support of Thamer Fund also spoke about their experience with Late Thamer Salman (May Allah have mercy on him).
