Ajman University Scholar Urges Media Pro to be Jack of all Trades

While a competent media professional is always working against time, they have to master all the skills needed to have better control over their output and ensure extensive coverage.

This was said by Dr. Safa Osman, an Associate Professor at the College of Mass Communication, Ajman University (AU), as part of her participation in the 17th edition of the Arab Media Forum held recently in Kuwait.

Given the Covid-19 health challenges, the annual gathering was organized virtually this year via the Zoom smart app in the presence of a number of media scholars, researchers and experts from across the Arab world.

Solely doing the job that would have been done by several people years back is the need of the time to keep abreast of the requirements of the competitive labor market these days, Dr Osman underlined.

“A successful media professional has to be Jack of all trades,” she urged. “They have to be skillful in not only writing a story but also editing, proofreading, taking pictures, shooting and producing videos, and communicating with the audience.”

This is actually what is being done at the College of Mass Communication, Ajman University, she pointed out.

“We provide our students with the latest knowledge, training, and technologies to hone their skills and get them ready for the future.”

Further, Dr Osman highlighted the role of mass media in developing public awareness about Covid-19.

“Since the WHO announced Covid-19 as global pandemic, the media has been following every update with multiple stories and incessant headlines.”

“It has become inevitable for traditional and new media to collaborate and integrate to better develop public awareness and safely get through this global crisis,” she said.
