AU Brings Awareness to Pediatric Cancer on “International Childhood Cancer Day”

Office of Community Engagement at Ajman University was invited by Twaam Hospital to raise awareness on Pediatric Cancer amongst the community and students on Saturday, 15th February, 2020 which is the International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD). There were 55 AU students who attended the awareness campaign all over from the College of Pharmacy and Science, Dentistry, Medicine and Engineering. The main aim is to encourage parents to be more vigilant of their children’s wellbeing and see the warning signs before it is too late.

ICCD is renowned every year to celebrate the strength and resiliency of kids with cancer and their families. It also promotes enhanced appreciation and deeper understanding of problems and difficulties faced by children or teenagers with cancer, the survivors, their families and society.

In line with the theme of year 2020, ‘Every Child Should have the Chance of Life’, Tawam Hospital intends to inform health care specialists relating to early indication of childhood cancer, develop public awareness about possible curability of youth cancers and inform the caregivers of childhood cancer patients about the troubles during cancer treatment.

Ms. Noor Al Chaghouri, Head of Community Service, said, ‘raising awareness among our community by providing a chance to attend such an awareness campaign will have huge social impact on our society. It is our role to provide such brief understanding to our youth so that they benefit in future generation as parents for their children.’

Karim Abouelata, a first-year student from College of Biomedical Engineering who is a survivor said, “I was diagnosed with leukemia during my high school period and it was very difficult time for me but Twaam hospital health care staff really helped and supported me. I cannot forget these days which changed my life completely and I am really thankful to Tawam hospital Faculty.”
