Introduction

The MClinDent - Prosthodontics is meticulously designed to provide students with an immersive and advanced clinical experience, focusing on prosthodontics, digital dentistry, dental implantology, and aesthetic dentistry. What sets this program apart is its strong emphasis on developing practical skills and applying evidence-based clinical practices while fostering compassionate patient care and promoting innovative research within the field of prosthodontics. While maintaining a solid foundation in conventional prosthodontics, the program also incorporates the latest techniques and applications in digital dentistry. Students are trained to manage complex clinical cases requiring prosthodontic, implant, and aesthetic interventions with the goal of achieving state-of-the-art outcomes.

The program fosters the development of critical thinking essential for advanced clinical practice, research, teaching, and lifelong learning. A strong emphasis is placed on cultivating skills for continuous self-improvement and professional growth.

Community service is a core component of the program, aiming to expand the impact of the College of Dentistry (CoD) by providing broader clinical services to a larger patient population, including individuals with severe dental conditions requiring comprehensive prosthetic and implant-prosthetic care.

The structured, three-year, full-time MClinDent- Prosthodontics program includes a dedicated research component that equips students with valuable insights and skills essential to their professional development. Through guided supervision and access to state-of-the-art facilities, students learn to design, conduct, and critically evaluate research that contributes to advancing prosthodontic knowledge and practice.

The Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics at Ajman University aims to cultivate competent, ethically responsible, and research-driven specialists through advanced clinical training, scholarly inquiry, and community engagement, empowering graduates to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based prosthodontic care and to lead in the advancement and sustainability of regional and international oral healthcare systems.

 

(A) Admission Requirements 

  1. The minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) required is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its established equivalent in the applicant’s bachelor’s degree in Dentistry (BDS or DDS). In specific cases, the student may be considered for conditional admission per AU policies.
  2. 2. An Equivalency Certificate issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE is required for Bachelor’s degrees obtained from universities outside the UAE.

Achieving the minimum required score on an English proficiency test, with a valid certificate, as follows:

  • IELTS Academic: Minimum overall band score of 6.0
  • TOEFL: Minimum score of 550 (ITP), 213 (Computer-based) or 79 (Internet based)
  • Applicants may be exempted from the English proficiency requirement only if they completed all their schooling (K-12) and a Bachelor’s degree in English in an English-speaking country (e.g., UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand).
  1. Two letters of recommendation from prosthodontics course coordinators who have known the applicant and can attest to their proficiency in prosthodontics.
  2. Interview: Applicants for the Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics program will be interviewed by two senior staff members to assess their suitability for the program.
  3. Medical Clearance: The applicant must be medically fit to study, and their immunization status against blood-borne infectious diseases must be verified.

 

  1. B) Conditional Admissions: 

A student may be considered for conditional admission to the Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics program under one of the following circumstances:

  1. Conditional Admission Due to Non-Fulfillment of Cumulative GPA Requirement: 

An applicant may be offered conditional admission due to not meeting the cumulative GPA requirement, provided they satisfy the following conditions:

  1. The applicant holds a bachelor’s degree in Dentistry from a university accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.
  2. The applicant’s bachelor’s degree was completed with a minimum cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.99 on a scale of 4.0, or its equivalent.

The applicant has met the English language proficiency requirements as outlined in the general admission criteria (see Section A above). Such an applicant must meet the following requirements during the period of conditional admission, or they may be subject to dismissal:

  • May take a maximum of nine credit hours in the first semester of study.
  • Must achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale in the first nine credit hours of the proposed new program.
  1. Conditional Admissions Due to Non-fulfillment of English Proficiency Requirement:

An applicant may be offered a conditional admission due  to not meeting the English proficiency requirement, if the following conditions are met:

  • The applicant holds a bachelor’s degree in Dentistry from a university accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.
  • The applicant’s bachelor’s degree was completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0, or its equivalent.
  • The applicant has attained a TOEFL score between 530 and 550, or its equivalent. has attained a score between 530 and 550 in TOEFL or its equivalent. Such an applicant must meet the following requirements during the period of conditional admission, or they may be subject to dismissal:
  • Must achieve a TOEFL or IELTS score as specified in the general requirements (see section A above) by the end of the first semester.
  • May take a maximum of six credit hours in the first semester of the proposed new program.
  • Must achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale in the first nine credit hours of the proposed new program.

In addition to the required documents, applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria:
1. Evaluation of academic performance based on CGPA.
2. Entrance Examination at the Undergraduate Level.

Graduation requirements

Dental students will be awarded the Master of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics degree after fulfilling the following requirements:

  1. Successfully completing the required 82 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of no less than 3.0. If this requirement is not met, students must take additional clinical courses in the following semester(s), as advised by the academic advisor, to meet the graduation criteria.
  2. Completing the treatment of assigned patients as per the programs’ clinical requirements.
  3. Submitting a written research thesis and successfully defending it before an examination committee.
