The primary aim of this course is to expose the students to the evolution of organizational theory and the contribution of different schools of thought to the development of classical and contemporary theoretical perspectives. The topics of bureaucracy, power and politics, organizational structures and technology, and emerging design options will be extensively examined. The course also looks at the issues of information and control, organizational renewal and learning, techno-structural change and adaptive capacity of organizations. Relevant cases and actual examples from a range of firms will be used to seek application of organizational theory to management issues.
