Ajman University Dental Team Conducts Mobile Dental Checkup Camp in Collaboration with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services

As part of Ajman University’s commitment to community engagement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the College of Dentistry continued to use its Mobile Dental Clinic during Academic Year 2025–2026 to bring preventive and basic oral-health services closer to communities across the United Arab Emirates. During AY 2025–2026, the Ajman University Mobile Dental Clinic recorded 24 outreach visits, reaching 1,657 individuals through oral-health screening, oral hygiene education and preventive dental services. The visits involved 265 volunteer participations from faculty, students and supporting team members. Outreach activities were conducted across Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, extending the University’s dental education and community-service activities beyond the university campus. The Mobile Dental Clinic served a diverse range of beneficiaries, including schoolchildren, university students and staff, workers, community members, and beneficiaries of charitable and humanitarian organizations. The programme also supported community events and special initiatives, including the Special Olympic Games 2026 and an orphanage visit. This broad reach enabled the University to respond to different community needs while promoting the importance of prevention and early identification of oral-health problems. The services provided during the year focused strongly on prevention and education. Depending on the needs of each outreach setting, activities included oral-health screening, individualized oral hygiene instruction, scaling and polishing, and fluoride application. Participants were educated about daily plaque control, appropriate oral-hygiene practices and the importance of regular dental care. Where further treatment was indicated, participants could be guided towards appropriate dental-care services. School-based outreach was an important component of the programme. Visits to schools in Ajman and Sharjah provided opportunities to screen children, reinforce healthy oral-hygiene habits and deliver age appropriate preventive education. Workplace and community visits, meanwhile, helped extend oral-health services to adult populations, including workers who may face practical barriers to accessing routine dental care. The Mobile Dental Clinic also provides a valuable experiential learning environment for Ajman University students. Under faculty supervision, students participate in community screening, oral-health education and preventive-care activities, allowing them to apply their clinical and communication skills in real-world settings. This strengthens the connection between academic learning, professional responsibility and service to society. The programme contributes directly to several UN Sustainable Development Goals. Its strongest alignment is with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, through the promotion of oral health, prevention and access to basic dental services. Its school and community education activities support SDG 4: Quality Education, while outreach to underserved and diverse populations contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Collaboration with schools, universities, charitable organizations, community groups and other partners also reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Beyond the numbers, the Mobile Dental Clinic represents Ajman University’s continuing commitment to social responsibility and meaningful community engagement. By taking dental care and oral-health education directly to schools, workplaces and community settings, the initiative helps make preventive oral healthcare more accessible while creating opportunities for students and faculty to serve the wider community. The College of Dentistry will continue to build on this initiative through regular outreach visits, stronger community partnerships and systematic documentation of activities and outcomes. Annual reporting of the number of visits, beneficiaries and activities will provide a consistent record of the University’s contribution to community health and the UN SDGs.
