AU Student Earns 3rd Spot in Poster Presentation Contest

While the spirit of ‘Make it happen’ is thriving everywhere in Ajman University (AU), Baraah Sahyoun, a student of interior design, College of Architecture, Art and Design, has ranked third in a major poster presentation contest here.

The “Renewable Energy Competition 2019”, organized by the Arab-German Young Academy of Science and Humanities and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, saw a stiff competition from universities nationwide.

However, Baraah stole the show with her sustainable design and renewable energy development project, according to Taher Salah Eldanaf, a Lecturer at the College of Architecture, Art and Design, AU.

“Baraah’s project helps reduce electricity consumption in a significant way.”

She has developed a lighting unit inspired by the bird feather (Biomimic Design), Eldanaf explained.

“This lighting unit reacts via fitted sensors that provide an extension of lights arm based on the density of people in public areas and streets.”

The modular design includes photo voltaic cells that transfer sunlight into electricity, he added.

“It is treated with low VOCs paint that reduces the usage of materials with full consideration to the environment.”

Eldanaf said the interior design department qualifies students to reach international standards, keeping up with the latest programs and curricula. “Sustainability for interior design is an example of the main areas covered.”
