College of Business Faculty Members at the Innovation Conference

Faculty members from the College of Business Administration participated as guest speakers at the conference organized by Public Service Department of the Government of Ras AL Khaimah. Dr. Mohammed N. Chaker, MBA Program Coordinator and Mr. Muhammad Siddiqui, Head of Marketing Department presented insightful lectures at the conference entitled “Innovation: Seeds to Foresight the Future”.  This conference was organized at the Shaikh Saqer Park as part of UAE Innovation Month activities.

Dr. Chaker’s presentation was “Innovation and the Economic Development”, it covered the definition of innovation, examples of major innovation in human lives, and who engaged in innovation. The second part covered the innovation economics, the field that emphasize on entrepreneurship and innovation to promote productivity and achieve higher rates of economic growth, the positive link between technological innovation and economic performance, and the importance of the geographic location as  a key element in establishing competitive advantage as regions focus on their unique assets to promote innovation. The last part discussed the concept of economic development, how innovation can contribute to socio-economic development with examples from recent OECD Economic Innovation Strategy.

Mr. Siddiqui’s presentation was on the topic “Social Media, Society and Business”  The topic covered the situational analysis of social media in the UAE and its impact on the consumer and their changing behavior due to the use of social media. He also discussed about the role of social media in business development, and how businesses are utilizing it in achieving business objectives. Mr. Siddiqui discussed the three different stages of development of social media. He identified that general public in UAE are more into blogging as compare to corporate sector, he mentioned that corporate sector needs to do more in this area.
