BEEAH Education and Ajman University Recognize Students' Innovations for a Sustainable Future

BEEAH Education and Ajman University recently celebrated the winners of their "Sustainability for Entrepreneurship & Innovation" competition, a joint initiative by the Institute of Environmental Management and Sustainability (IEMS) and the College of Business Administration (CBA). The four-day event included workshops and practical insights for student teams to develop innovative sustainability ideas. IEMS provided courses on sustainability, circular economy, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Participants toured BEEAH Group's advanced waste management complex, achieving a regional record of 90% landfill waste diversion.

Hind Al Huwaidi, Chief Education Officer at BEEAH Group, highlighted the competition's role in empowering youth for a sustainable future, emphasizing the significance of translating actions into lasting change. During the finale at BEEAH Headquarters, three winning ideas were chosen by a panel of judges, showcasing unique approaches to drive sustainability. The first-place concept, "GREENSIP," by Maryam Yaser, Shahd Albuali, and Shirin Ibrahim, introduced an environmentally friendly beverage bottle made from biodegradable plastic (PHA) with a plantable seed. "AIRQUATIC," the second-place winner by Aya Babbili and her team, featured a prototype with advanced sensors for sustainable air and water filtration. The third-place concept, "BIOFAB," by Rouneida Yasmine's team, proposed a bio-machine using cooking oil for biodiesel to create a plantable bio-fabric, supporting sustainable fashion.

The competition, coupled with professional training and workshops from IEMS Academy, equipped students with insights to create sustainable sub-sectors and future-ready businesses. Dr. Akinola Fadahunsi, Dean of the College of Business Administration, expressed the partnership's significance in inspiring students to contribute to the UAE's sustainable development goals and set an example globally.
