Omer ElFaroug H. Salim Obeid Professor Salim is an esteemed Associate Professor of Surgery at Ajman University College of medicine , and a respected academic affiliated with the University of Khartoum. His career has been marked by groundbreaking contributions to medical science, particularly in the fields of colorectal cancer, schistosomiasis, and breast cancer research. He obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Khartoum in 1991 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1995. His postgraduate training in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery was conducted in England, where he gained specialized expertise. Dr. Salim is registered with the Sudan Medical Council, the General Medical Council (UK), and the Dubai Health Authority. He is currently recognized as International Examiner and MSc supervisor at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, showcasing his international professional affiliations Professor Salim is celebrated for discovering "The Omer Sign," a breakthrough endoscopic marker for early rectal schistosomiasis, advancing early colorectal cancer detection. His research on disease patterns in African populations, including the link between schistosomiasis and colorectal cancer, has had a profound impact on medical understanding. He has also contributed significantly to breast cancer quality-of-life assessments. A prolific researcher with over 168 citations, Professor Salim has published extensively in international and local journals on colorectal and breast cancer, as well as gastrointestinal diseases. He supervised more than 150 theses in Surgery. Beyond his scholarly achievements, he is an inspiring educator and a passionate advocate for bridging the gap between research and clinical practice. He has served in various prestigious roles, including Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, and Consultant Breast Surgeon. His dedication to advancing surgical practices and improving patient outcomes has earned him recognition in his field. His previous appointments include leadership positions such as, head of surgical department, Director of Surgical Registrar Training and Vice President of the Fellowship in GI Surgery at the Medical Specialization Board. Dr. Omer ELFaroug Salim is also an advocate for innovation in medical education, contributing to curriculum development and program evaluation. And simulation-based education.
