Course Description

This course presents the fundamentals of certain topics in organic chemistry. It covers some important areas in organic chemistry, which include aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alkyl- and aryl halides, alcohols, ethers and epoxides. It emphasizes the pharmaceutical importance of these functional groups and gives examples of their applications. 
Laboratory work concerning specific chemical reactions, organic synthesis, identification of organic compounds and synthesis of aspirin.
