Course Description

This course is designed to acquaint students with the field of biotechnology. Topics will include introduction, definitions, history of biotechnology, & major areas of contribution of biotechnology. Chromosomes, biotechnological techniques of recombinant DNA technology, including cloning of DNA, PCR, Gene libraries (Genomics libraries, & c-DNA libraries), DNA sequencing, Sanger sequencing & Human Genome Project shall be discussed. Monoclonal antibodies, antisense oligo-nucleotides and gene therapies will be thoroughly covered. The course also entails methods adopted for preparation of biotechnology drug products and their evaluation, stability and storage. The current marketed biotechnology drug products including therapeutic proteins, as well as the future prospects of biotechnology drug products shall be covered.
