Moawia M. Al-Tabakha is an associate professor of Pharmaceutical Technology working at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) in Ajman University (AU), Ajman Campus, since August 2016. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wales, UK in April 2000 with the research thesis title “Formulation of Dry Powders for Inhalation”. Since then and for over 20 years he worked academically in different Universities across the Middle East. He chaired different college committees such as the college quality assurance, research, and postgraduate studies, examination committee, training and curriculum committees. He was appointed for a short period of times as deputy dean (15/1/2005 to 3/9/2005), acting dean (during the summer of the Academic year 2009-2010), general supervisor of the University library (during 1st semester of the academic year 2006-2007), served as a coordinator for the pharmaceutical sciences unit (2013-2016), coordinator for international accreditation (Jan 2017 - ongoing), Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences Department (Sep 2017 - ongoing) and the Coordinator of the BPharm program (Sep 2019 - ongoing).
Dr. Moawia is aware of the current accreditation standards both nationally and internationally. At the College of Pharmacy at Al Ain University (AAU), he was appointed as the head of the steering committee for the US Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education “ACPE” International Certification (2013-2016). With his significant involvement, the college was able to secure the certification in February 2015 at the first attempt. Additionally, he played a significant role in obtaining the national re-accreditation of the BSc Pharmacy program in July 2013. He also participated in the preparation and initial accreditation of the MSc Clinical Pharmacy program in January 2015. He was also involved in the preparation of the “Nutrition and Dietetics” program at AAU in 2016. Dr. Moawia is currently the head of the ACPE International Certification steering committee (Jan 2017 – Current, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, AU) and a member of the standing Institutional Effectiveness Committee (Dec 2017 – Current).
Dr. Moawia serves on the editorial board of some peer-reviewed journals. He also reviewed several manuscripts on behalf of renowned journals. Dr. Al-Tabakha published several research papers related to his field in peer-reviewed journals including the “Journal of Controlled Release; Impact Factor 2015: 7.633”. Two research groups in which Dr. Moawia was affiliated won awards for their professional poster at DUPHAT 2012 and DUPHAT 2013. In 2014 he was nominated for the “Distinguished Researcher” award for his researches 2013. He was assigned to a scientific committee to study the faculty promotion application (March 2016). He currently has a Google h-index 9 and i10-index 9 with over 489 citations to his published papers. His researches are related to the area of drug formulation, delivery, and characterization. Additionally, researches related to pharmacy practice are of interest to him and have published several manuscripts in that area. He provided professional consultation in the area of vegetable capsule shells to firms such as West Pharmaceutical Services and Reperio-Tech LLC, The Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company Consultation.
