Shift the focus onto the learner: AUST Faculty members

The International Conference on Teacher Education in the Muslim World, organized under the aegis of the International Islamic University – Malaysia, witnessed a commendable participation from Ajman University of Science & Technology represented by Dr Abdul Haq al-Nuaimi, Director General of the Department of Community Service, and assistant professor in the College of Information, Mass Communication and Humanities aslong with Mrs. Nida Hadi, lecturer at the English Department of the College of University Requirements.

The conference was attended by 45 academicians hailing from around the globe. The opening session was addressed by the former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad.

Mrs. Nida presented her paper in the first session titled “Focus of the learner: language related skills”. Dr. Abdul Haq’s presentation discussed “Functional Syllabus Design & Needs Analysis.” he delved into the different kinds of syllabi and programs of teaching with a focus on communicative syllabi that would develop the speaking skills of foreign language learners. Divided into 2 major parts, theoretical and practical designing of syllabi were deliberated in detail. The needs can only be analyzed after a thorough analysis of the social and linguistic background of the learner in light of the socio-psychological aspects.

Ajman University encourages and supports participation in international conferences and other platforms of academic discussion. Participation at the international level assists in cross-pollination of ideas and scientific researches for honing of the skill set of AUST faculty.
