The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences participated with a lecture and a panel discussion led by Dr Sanah Hasan during the Emirate Pharmacy Society (EPS) - World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 18 to 24 November, 2020.

Every year between 18th and 24th November, countries around the world celebrate World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promote the safe use of antimicrobials.

The virtual 7-day conference organized by EPS convened to achieve the following objectives: 

  1. Improve awareness and understanding of Antimicrobial agents and Amicrobial Resistance among healthcare providers  
  2. Understand the role of healthcare authorities regarding antimicrobial use and policies to improve their use 
  3. Sharing experience from the leaders of antimicrobial stewardship from public and private healthcare sector in UAE 

4: Reduce the incidence of infection through effective sanitation, hygiene and infection prevention measures 

5: Optimize the use of antimicrobial medicines in human and animal health 

 

On day 5, representatives from Colleges of pharmacy across the UAE presented at the event and engaged in a panel discussion followed by a question/answer session all about the initiatives taken by Colleges of Pharmacy in including AB stewardship as part of the undergraduate and master’s pharmacy program curricula, community involvement by Colleges of pharmacy faculty in enhancing awareness of pharmacy and medical professionals of Antimicrobial stewardship in the UAE, and any research projects that the colleges are currently involved in as related to Antimicrobial stewardship.
