College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences organizes a seminar on “Dealing with mentally ill patients: a focus on patient counseling by pharmacists”

On 19th October 2023, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences organized a seminar on “Dealing with mentally ill patients: a focus on patient counseling by pharmacists” in partnership with Ajman Specialty General Hospital, one of the esteemed experiential education partners of Ajman University. Dr. Khalil Ibrahim, a consultant Psychiatrist at Ajman Specialty General Hospital, was the keynote speaker. The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Alaa Farajallah, a team member of the Office of Experiential Learning at the College. During his seminar, Dr. Khalil addressed the pharmacy students at was marked by a deep emphasis on the pivotal role pharmacists hold in the support and care of patients with psychiatric conditions. He urged the attending students to recognize the significance of empathy, active listening, and comprehensive counseling in their future roles as pharmacists. The session was enriched by practical examples and case studies, offering a real-world perspective on the challenges and opportunities present in mental health care within the pharmacy setting. The session included students asking questions to the resource person. Dr. Alaa thanked the resource person for his valuable information and reiterated the College’s commitment to promoting institution-training site collaboration.
