Advancing Prevention and Health Literacy: Cervical Cancer Awareness Initiative at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

In recognition of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Health and Wellness Club at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences organized a comprehensive on-campus awareness initiative under the supervision of Dr. Nihal Ibrahim. The initiative aimed to promote prevention, encourage early screening, and empower female students to make informed decisions regarding their health. The campaign highlighted cervical cancer as one of the few cancers that can be effectively prevented through vaccination, regular screening, and early intervention, reinforcing the importance of education and proactive healthcare practices in reducing health risks and safeguarding long-term well-being.

The program featured the distribution of educational materials and interactive discussions designed to address common misconceptions, identify risk factors, and emphasize the critical value of early detection. The success of the initiative was driven by the active engagement and dedication of student volunteers: Obaya Ahmed, Nour Ibrahim, Shahad Taiseer, Yamama Imad, Sara Adel, Sara Samer, and Dana Mahmoud. Their commitment and leadership were instrumental in fostering meaningful peer-to-peer dialogue and creating a supportive environment that encouraged open discussion on women’s health.

Professor Abeer Al Ghananeem, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, extended her sincere appreciation to the participating students for their outstanding efforts in organizing and implementing this impactful initiative. The Dean emphasized that such initiatives reflect the College’s mission to promote prevention, early intervention, and evidence-based health education, while empowering students with knowledge and skills that extend beyond the classroom into the wider community.

The College remains steadfast in its support of student-led initiatives that enhance health literacy and contribute to the overall well-being of the university community.
