Cross-Border Learning in Pharmacy Practice: Ajman University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Welcomes Visiting Pharm.D. Student from Jordan

Ajman, UAE – October 3, 2026: The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) at Ajman University successfully concluded a specialized Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation in Infectious Diseases for Ms. Bana Gharaibeh, an inbound Pharm.D. student from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Jordan. She completed her immersive clinical training from September 12 to October 2, 2026.

The three-week intensive clinical training program was designed to provide advanced exposure to infectious disease management and hospital pharmacy practice. Ms. Gharaibeh completed two weeks of immersive clinical training at Thumbay University Hospital and one week at Saudi German Hospital, Ajman Branch. Throughout her rotation, she actively participated in key clinical activities outlined in the experiential curriculum, including obtaining patient histories, reviewing medication profiles, interpreting culture and sensitivity reports, monitoring antimicrobial therapy, and identifying drug-related problems.

The international exchange opportunity enabled the visiting student to integrate academic knowledge with real-world clinical practice, strengthening her competencies in patient assessment, interprofessional communication, and evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship. Working alongside multidisciplinary healthcare teams in UAE hospital settings also provided valuable insights into hospital pharmacy operations, patient safety practices, and regional approaches to infectious disease management.

Prof. Abeer AlGhananeem, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, emphasized the importance of international academic mobility and experiential learning, stating:

"Hosting talented inbound students from institutions such as JUST creates a dynamic learning environment and promotes cross-cultural professional exchange. We are delighted to support training opportunities that prepare future pharmacists for global healthcare environments. These collaborative initiatives foster mutual learning, broaden professional perspectives, and strengthen international partnerships in healthcare education. They also enable students to develop the adaptability, cultural competence, and clinical confidence required to excel in increasingly interconnected healthcare systems. At COPHS, we remain committed to providing transformative learning experiences that empower future healthcare professionals to make meaningful contributions to patient care worldwide."

The training program was jointly coordinated by Prof. Sai Boddu, Coordinator of the B. Pharmacy Program, and Dr. Subish Palaian, Coordinator of the Office of Experiential Learning at COPHS, in collaboration with clinical preceptors and staff across Thumbay University Hospital and Saudi German Hospital, Ajman. Thanks to Ms. Victoria Winter, Director of Office of International Academic Affairs, and her team for helping with the arrangements.

The successful completion of this international rotation reflects COPHS unwavering commitment to delivering innovative, practice-oriented pharmacy education. It also underscores Ajman University's broader mission of fostering global academic partnerships, advancing student mobility, and promoting excellence in healthcare education and professional development. By facilitating meaningful international learning experiences, the University continues to cultivate globally competent healthcare professionals equipped to address the evolving needs of diverse patient populations across the region and beyond.
