Information Technology Infrastructure and Implementation

Research Focus & Current Research

The research group focuses at the research activities on the emerging trends in information technology domain that enables building IT infrastructure and implementation of various cutting-edge technologies and applications. More specifically, the current target research areas of the ITI2 Research Group include, but not limited to, the following:

Network Architecture Design and Development

This research area mainly targets design and implementation of next-generation network architectures and their interoperation with the status-quo network infrastructure. In the past few years, a number of state-of-the-art network technologies and architectures have been proposed by the community. The research area focuses the development of new services in these network architectures. Specifically, the research group aims at working on the following modern network architectures:

  • Content/Information Centric Networking
  • Software-Defined Networking
  • Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking
  • Fog and Cloud Computing
  • Network Virtualization and Overlays
  • Vehicular Area Networks

Network Protocols Design & Analysis

This research area focuses on design, development and analysis of new networking protocols that function in a number of network infrastructure and applications. Moreover, we also work towards the analysis of existing networking protocols and their impact in different network situations. Specifically, the research group targets development and analysis of routing, transport and application layer protocols.

Embedded Systems Design and Development

The Embedded Systems has a wide range of applications in domestic and industrial devices. The focus of the research in embedded systems deals with both hardware and software aspects of the system. The important research topics often derived from real problems that exist within the industry or the public sector. The focus in the topics is to build systems that can be used as proof of principles or as demonstrators to show the practical use of the research results. Some examples of such research topics are:

  • Automation of Services
  • Health Monitoring System
  • Real-time Industrial Process Control & Monitoring
  • Speech recognition
  • Smart cities

Application Development

This area aims at development applications using application development platforms that are beneficial for the local and regional community and targets the present and future needs of the society. These application development platforms including programming languages, iOS and Android SDKs.

Infrastructure & Security

Security and resilience of information technology infrastructure and systems is one of the most important aspects which has implications across all domains of information technology. Hence, the research group targets working on implementation of algorithms that ensures the security, stability and resilience of IT infrastructure.

Internet-of-Things (IoT)

Internet of Things is one of the hottest research area for the past few years. This research areas spans over the domain of embedded systems and networking technologies. Hence, it fits very well into the research focus of the ITI2 research group. Besides working on the typical IoT-based solutions, the research group also have skills to work on the traditional sensors networks and the well-known wireless body-area networks (WBAN). Use of IoT also leads towards the realization of smart and green cities by proposing solutions that has a positive impact on the daily-life problems of the community.

Cloud Computing & Migration

This area of research focuses on cloud computing and live migration of virtual machines between clouds of same or different administrative domains.

Artificial Intelligence

This area relates to devising algorithms related to different domains of artificial intelligence.

Overall, the team has more than 40 years of combined research experience and has published a number of research papers in renowned and peer-reviewed international conference and impactful journals.
