Course Description

This course explores the aspects of media in contemporary societies and their importance, thus shedding the light on the close relationship between media and social phenomena, and highlighting the impact of communication technological advancements on the contemporary society. In addition to the aforementioned, this course explores the origin and development of the sociology of media as a branch of sociology and its main principles. Furthermore, it also explores the main theoretical trends that tackled media in terms of its sociological aspect, including its functional structure, the theories of conflict and symbolic interaction, the social perspectives pertaining to globalization, knowledge community, and social networks.
