Qualitative research methods and their importance in contemporary sociology

On February 23, 2022, the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Center launched its first inaugural webinar.  The webinar was conducted by Dr. Habib Al-Darwish, an associate professor at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and moderated by Dr.  Soumaya Abdellatif, an assistant professor at Ajman University.  The webinar was titled “Qualitative Research Methods and their Importance in Contemporary Sociology”, which was distinguished by an immense audience of more than 65 participants and a great interaction on the part of the participants, among them were PhD students at King Abdulaziz University and Professors from and outside Ajman University. In the webinar, Dr. Al-Darwish touched upon the question of the approach in sociology between the positivist paradigm and the hermeneutic paradigm and the general intellectual framework that accompanied the talk about the need to reconsider the interpretive paradigm in contemporary sociological research. Then he presented the obstacles involved in using the qualitative approach in Arab sociological studies.
