Ajman University Hosts Guest Lecture on Evidence-Based Assessment in Special and Inclusive Education

The Department of Education at Ajman University hosted Prof Tarik Abdelrheem from the Psychology Department for a guest lecture on evidence-based assessment and diagnosis in special and inclusive education, held on 3 and 4 October 2026.

Delivered as part of the Master’s-level Special and Inclusive Education course, the sessions focused on contemporary approaches to identifying, assessing, and diagnosing learners with exceptionalities, with particular emphasis on the neuroscientific foundations of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learning difficulties.

During the lectures, Prof  Abdelrheem discussed the importance of scientifically grounded assessment practices in understanding individual learning needs and supporting informed educational decisions. He also explored how differences in attention regulation, cognitive processing, and responses to environmental stimuli can influence learners’ experiences and educational needs.

The sessions provided postgraduate students with an opportunity to connect cognitive neuroscience and evidence-based assessment with inclusive classroom practices. They also highlighted the importance of looking beyond diagnostic labels to develop a deeper understanding of individual differences and adopt appropriate instructional strategies.

The guest lectures reflect Ajman University’s commitment to research-informed teaching, academic excellence, and the promotion of evidence-based practices in inclusive education.
