The Department of Psychology at Ajman University contributed to community engagement and professional development by delivering two training workshops organized by the Emirates Association for Social Development on 25 September 2026. The sessions were led by Dr. Rasha Mohamed Abdelrahman, Head of the Department of Psychology, and focused on parenting skills and adolescent development.
The workshops addressed two important topics: “Developing Parenting Skills During Adolescence” and “Frequently Asked Questions During Adolescence.” Both sessions aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of adolescent development and provide practical guidance on addressing the challenges parents may encounter during this important stage of their children’s lives.
The sessions highlighted the importance of effective parenting, open communication, and understanding adolescents’ psychological and emotional needs. They also emphasized the role of positive parent–adolescent relationships in supporting emotional well-being, encouraging healthy development, and helping families respond constructively to common challenges.
Through practical discussions and professional guidance, participants explored approaches to strengthening their parenting skills and responding more confidently to adolescents’ questions, behaviours, and changing needs. The workshops also highlighted the value of creating a supportive family environment in which adolescents feel understood, respected, and encouraged to communicate openly.
This initiative reflects the Department of Psychology’s commitment to community engagement and the practical application of psychological knowledge. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions and community organizations in promoting psychological awareness, supporting families, and contributing to the well-being of the wider community.
