Ajman University Senior Lecturer Highlights the Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming part of everyday life, creating new opportunities for universities to transform teaching, research, administration, and institutional performance.

At a closed virtual UAE Higher Education Leaders Roundtable on “Driving Digital Transformation for Institutional Effectiveness and University Performance,” Dr. Samer H. Zyoud, Senior Lecturer at Ajman University, shared his perspective on the role of AI and the importance of adopting it thoughtfully and responsibly within higher education institutions.

Dr. Zyoud highlighted that AI brings both significant advantages and challenges. Rather than viewing AI solely through the lens of risk, universities should identify areas where AI can create value while establishing responsible approaches to address its potential challenges.

“There are many advantages and many disadvantages. We have to focus on the advantages and avoid the disadvantages. This is our future,” said Dr. Zyoud.

His contribution emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with responsible implementation as universities continue to navigate the evolving digital landscape. AI is expected to play an increasingly important role across teaching and learning, research, administration, and other aspects of university life.
