Faculty Member from College of Humanities and Sciences Participates in the 16th Social Work Conference in Sharjah

Dr. Soumaya participated in the 16th Social Work Conference, organized by the Government of Sharjah Social Services Department, contributing to professional dialogue on contemporary issues in social work and community services.

As part of the conference program, Dr. Soumaya delivered a workshop titled “Professional Decision-Making in Social Work: Between Daily Practice and Social Policy.” The workshop explored the relationship between social policy and professional practice, highlighting how social policies provide an essential framework for social work interventions, while daily practice offers valuable insights into emerging social realities.

The workshop emphasized the importance of using field-based knowledge and professional experience to inform and reorient social programs and services. Participants discussed how practitioners can connect policy frameworks with the realities encountered in their daily professional practice to support more responsive and effective social interventions.

The conference also provided an enriching platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences with experts and professionals from the fields of social work, sociology, and community services. Discussions based on concrete case studies and real-world professional situations encouraged meaningful dialogue and offered practical perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the social work profession.
