Safe Laboratory Practices and Procedures Workshop Enhances Laboratory Safety Skills for professional postgraduate Diploma in Teaching students
The Education Department at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Ajman University organized a workshop titled “Safe Laboratory Practices and Procedures for Science Teachers” on 14 February 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Hanan Elimam, Associate Professor of Chemistry, and was attended by students of the Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ awareness and practical understanding of essential laboratory safety practices and procedures. Dr. Hanan Elimam provided detailed guidance on the safe handling and use of laboratory equipment, emphasizing the importance of following appropriate safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe learning environment.
Participants also learned about the proper handling and storage of chemicals, including both hazardous and non-hazardous substances. The session addressed appropriate responses to chemical spills, introducing students to essential safety protocols and procedures that should be followed in the event of an incident.
In addition, the workshop introduced participants to different types of biological hazards that may be encountered in science laboratories and highlighted the importance of identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures.
As part of the practical component of the workshop, participants visited the Chemistry Laboratory, where they had the opportunity to observe laboratory facilities and safety practices in a real laboratory environment. The visit helped bridge the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
The workshop provided Diploma students with valuable knowledge and practical skills that will support them in creating safe and effective science learning environments. It also reflects Ajman University’s commitment to equipping future teachers with the professional competencies required for responsible laboratory practices and quality science education.
