Course Description

Introduction to power switching devices, the characteristics, and operation of power semiconductor devices. Power diodes and power transistors BJTs, MOSFETs, IGBTs, and SITs. Thyristor, thyristor firing circuits, triggering circuits using UJTs, and PUTs. Analysis and design of single-phase/three-phase half-wave/full-wave uncontrolled/controlled rectifier. AC voltage controllers: Principle of phase control, single-phase controllers with resistive load/inductive load. DC choppers: step-down and step-up operations. Three-phase inverters, applications of various power switching devices in DC and AC drives.
