| Abstract |
The challenge of academic dishonesty in academia continues to remain a prevalent issue, and emphasizes the need for additional proctoring mechanisms more than ever. LabGuard is a solution developed and implemented to address this issue, which is a desktop application based on Python and its extensive libraries, developed for the purpose of protection of academic integrity in lab assessments carried out by universities. Based on a client-server architecture, this system works by detecting cheating behaviors in areas of application/window switching, copy-paste detection, and the number of keystrokes used to type out the answers. This allows for an additional layer of proctoring capabilities on top of existing invigilation measures imposed. The development phase made use of the agile methodology for incremental development of the software. Comprehensive testing and detailed documentation has been carried out on the system to prove the effectiveness of the solution in strengthening proctoring protocols for university lab assessments. |
