| Abstract |
There are thousands of stray cats roaming across residential areas in the UAE, and their suffering from starvation, disease, and injuries is growing to be a concern of seriousness. Though community volunteers and shelters work tirelessly, the efforts are still quite scattered due to the problem of a non-centralized mechanism to report, rescue, and adopt these stray cats. Cats Haven will fill this gap: a user-friendly WordPress site will be designed as a bridge connecting those who see stray cats and rescuers and adopters. Built using WordPress Elementor, the user can report a stray cat sighting simply by uploading a photo and specifying its location. The provided information will be accessible to authorized individuals for the efficient coordination of rescue missions, medical interventions, and an adoption process. A standardized approach to stray cat care proposes that Cats Haven champion efforts to save and rehome these cats with the community around. This project resonates with some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Life on Land (Goal 15) relates to humane population management of stray cats, while Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11) discern organization of rescue efforts and Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3) recognizes verifications keeping notation of vaccinations meant to counter potential threats arising due to zoonotic diseases. Standardization applies to data and ease of processes for adoption for the community supporting pet adoption by nurturing sustainable and humane ways of cohabitating with stray cats in the UAE. |
