Abstract

Several issues in the medical equipment supply chain have to do with transparency, traceability, counterfeit products and data security. However, centralized systems are subject to data manipulation, are hard to track and do not permit the authenticity of medical equipment to be verified. This project aims for a Blockchain Based Medical Equipment Traceability System that enhances security, reliability, traceability and transparency in medical equipment management and distribution. The proposed system is a combination of blockchain and web application technologies that enable secure and immutable tracking of supply chain operations. Various functions like user registration, product creation, order placement, shipment tracking and delivery confirmation are managed using smart contracts. Multiple user roles such as Admin, Manufacturer, Distributor and Recipient are supported so that there is proper access control and workflow management for different users. The system also incorporates QR code technology to enable quick product verification and traceability. Every medical equipment has its own QR code with its information stored in blockchain, which can be used to authenticate the product and track it, from origin to final destination, throughout the supply chain. Tools used for the implementation of the system included Ganache, MetaMask, Remix IDE and Visual Studio Code. The system was demonstrated to be functional and non-functional through testing, which verified its efficiency, security, and reliability. The findings show that blockchain can be a powerful tool for increasing transparency and trust in healthcare equipment and prevent counterfeit medical equipment to have a trustworthy solution for medical equipment traceability.
