Ajman University Wins Maximum Prizes for 8th Consecutive Year at IEEE UAE Student Day

The IEEE UAE Day is an annual event in which all major universities in the UAE participate. Ajman University regularly participates in this competition and till date has bagged prizes for its students projects and innovative ideas. 2017 was no different, this year AU bagged the maximum number of awards for the 8th consecutive year. Ajman University students, faculty and staff members rejoiced at this remarkable achievement.

This prestigious event is organized by IEEE UAE Section with active support from IEEE Student Branch Counselors from all participating institutions. The first-ever event was held at American University of Sharjah in 2006 and the latest the 12th was hosted by Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi.

In the 12th IEEE UAE Day held at Khalifa University, 80 student teams with 250 undergraduate students from 15 universities in the UAE competed for the above-mentioned project categories. Ajman University has been receiving the maximum number of prizes in this prestigious competition since 2010. This year also it retained its leadership role and won the first position by winning maximum number of prizes. It won 9 prizes as follows:

First and Second positions at Industrial Design Project (IDP) Competition

First Position at Engineering Design Project (EDP)

First and Third Position at Senior Design Project (SDP)- Control  

First and Third at Senior Design Project (SDP)- Computing

Second Position at Software Engineering Project (SEP)

Third Position at Common Design Project (CDP)

AU Chancellor, Dr. Karim Seghir honored the winners and the team supervisors. He applauded their achievement and encouraged them to aim higher; the students and supervisors briefed the Chancellor about the projects and their motivation to design such projects. The students highlighted that the main motivation was the encouragement from University management for their initiatives.

"Working for the IEEE Engineering Design Project was a challenging yet enlightening experience wherein we got acquainted with the basics of mechanical design and fabrication. Success in this has provided us with experience and skills that we will surely benefit from, in our careers as engineers."- Samra Siddiqui, Bio Medical Engineering Department; Project Engineering Design Project.

On the role of AU faculty and Administrations in the students success, Student Waleed Bin Nasi stated that “Dr. Mohammed Nasr, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Project supervisor, Engineer Mujeeb assisted us both during and after duty hours. They were always available to guide us or clarify something for us, truly the support makes the journey and award all the more sweeter. We are the first male team from Bio-Medical Engineering at AU to participate and we bagged the First prize all because of our University and faculties encouragement and support”.

Students voiced their appreciation and stated that they felt motivated to take their innovations to the next level and participate in more regional and international competitions.
