The visit to Snapchat provided an engaging opportunity to explore the world of social media, augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI). From the moment of arrival, the experience was designed to be both interactive and educational. The program included presentations, panel discussions, live demonstrations, and networking sessions, giving us insights into Snapchat’s journey, technologies, and workplace culture.
Upon arrival, each participant scanned a QR code at the reception, where we were given a personalized sticker tag with our names. This organized system allowed for a smooth check-in process. We were then directed into a designated room where the session officially began with a warm welcome from the Snapchat team.
The session opened with Lydia, a representative from Snapchat, who gave us a brief yet informative presentation. She introduced the history of Snapchat, explaining how the platform was originally named Peekaboo before being rebranded to Snapchat. This segment helped us understand the company’s origins, vision, and how it evolved into one of the world’s most widely used social media platforms.
After the introduction, we were introduced to the panel consisting of Kareem, Lara, and Boumediene. Lydia moderated the discussion by asking the panelists questions about their professional journeys and experiences at Snapchat. The students also had the opportunity to ask their own questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of the career paths and skills that contributed to the panelists’ success. The panelists shared personal stories of growth, challenges, and opportunities, inspiring students on how they could achieve similar success in their own careers.
The next session was led by Lara, who introduced the audience to Snapchat’s use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creating filters. She explained the importance of these technologies in enhancing user experiences and keeping Snapchat unique among other platforms. To make the session interactive, Lara asked the students about their favorite filters, sparking enthusiasm and participation. She then introduced Lens Studio, Snapchat’s powerful tool that enables anyone to design and create their own filters. Additionally, Lara highlighted Snapchat’s cutting-edge project, Spectacles – AR glasses designed to bring filters into a 3D, real-world experience. This project showcased the company’s innovation and forward-thinking approach to technology.
Following the first half of the sessions, there was a 15-minute lunch break, allowing everyone to refresh before continuing with the activities.
After the break, the visit continued with a speed networking activity. Tables were arranged into four groups, and the panelists rotated between each group. Each interaction lasted about two minutes, allowing students to have direct, personal conversations with the panelists. This format created a dynamic and engaging environment where students could ask questions, seek advice, and learn more in an informal setting. The networking session was filled with positivity and energy, as the Snapchat staff demonstrated kindness, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in connecting with the students.
The Snapchat visit was an enriching experience that combined learning, innovation, and professional interaction. From the detailed presentation about Snapchat’s history to the inspiring stories of the panelists, the trip highlighted the importance of creativity, adaptability, and technology in shaping the future. The interactive sessions on AR, AI, and Lens Studio gave us valuable insights into emerging technologies, while the networking activity fostered personal connections with industry professionals. Overall, the visit left us inspired, motivated, and appreciative of the energy and support provided by the Snapchat team.
