Vice-Chancellor’s Message

Ajman University (AU) is committed to excellence through continuous self-assessment and the ongoing improvement of its academic and non-academic units. The Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (OIPE) promotes, monitors, and evaluates AU’s culture of assessment. It develops, implements, and oversees the University’s quality enhancement plan with the involvement of all stakeholders. OIPE comprises five units: Strategic Alignment, Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, Accreditation, and Compliance.

The OIPE shares the results of institutional research and analyses of effective planning, budgeting, and improvement across all units of the University. The Unit of Strategic Alignment supports the implementation of the University’s strategic plan by coordinating the performance management cycle for all academic and non-academic units. It leads in defining KPIs with unit heads and the Cabinet members, monitors progress toward achieving the specified targets of KPIs, and prepares mid-year and final performance reports. The Unit of Institutional Research conducts institutional research and provides support to senior management and colleges through analysis and dissemination of findings. It collects and analyzes data, contributes to the preparation of the annual Fact Book, and submits data to the Higher Education Information and Data Analysis (HEIDA), formerly the Center for Higher Education Data and Statistics (CHEDS) of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The unit also submits required data to accrediting agencies, responds to ranking agencies’ requests, and supports various institutional and college-level committees. The Unit of Assessment and Effectiveness coordinates with colleges to plan and conduct assessments of student learning outcomes for all academic programs. The Unit of Accreditation serves as the University’s liaison with the Commission on Academic Accreditation (CAA), the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, overseeing all academic and non-academic accreditation matters and is responsible for preparing and securing approval of substantive change applications by WSCUC. The Unit of Compliance ensures that all institutional documents meet relevant guidelines and circulars of the CAA and relevant international accrediting agencies. OIPE also contributes to enhancing the University’s visibility and positioning through efforts to achieve higher rankings regionally and globally.

Under OIPE, the Institutional Effectiveness Committee (IEC) plays a key role in the entire assessment and improvement process. The IEC guides and monitors university-wide assessment and evaluation processes to achieve continuous improvement. The IEC oversees the College Effectiveness Committees (CECs) which in turn monitor the assessment processes conducted by the department-level Assessment and Continuous Improvement Committees (ACICs) and evaluate their effectiveness.

The OIPE invites all stakeholders to provide their valuable feedback for continuous improvement of the assessment and evaluation processes at Ajman University.
