The Ajman University (AU) Office of Medical Services (OMS), in collaboration with Thumbay University Hospital (TUH), continued its annual breastfeeding awareness and support volunteering initiative in October 2025, marking the third (3) consecutive year of this community Hands-on-training program.
The training focused on promoting breastfeeding awareness, maternal well-being, and newborn health through education, practical guidance, and support for mothers and maternity healthcare staff. Emphasis was placed on proper breastfeeding techniques, early mother–infant bonding, and overcoming common breastfeeding challenges. The initiative promotes sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, breastfeeding education, and access to evidence-based maternal and newborn care, supporting informed reproductive health decisions and improved health outcomes for mothers and infants
As part of the initiative, an 18-hour training course was delivered to staff nurses working in maternity and neonatal units, strengthening their knowledge and practical skills in lactation management and breastfeeding support.
Aligned with international maternal and child health recommendations, the program reflects AU’s continued commitment to community engagement, preventive healthcare, and the promotion of maternal and newborn well-being through meaningful healthcare volunteering activities.
