Type of Activity: UN SDG + 21st-Century Skills
Organizer office: Student Housing Office

The MedXplorer Journal Club, in collaboration with the Office of Students Housing and the Hostel Creative Team, successfully organized The Winter Fest – Exploring the World of Survey Research on 17 November 2025. This engaging academic event aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of survey-based research through an interactive and winter-themed learning experience. The venue was transformed into a cozy campsite environment with winter décor, soft lighting, and warm seasonal treats such as hot chocolate and marshmallows, creating a welcoming space that encouraged exploration and creativity.

Aligned with UN SDG 4: Quality Education, the event offered hands-on exposure to essential components of survey research, including topic selection, question design, sampling methods, and data interpretation. It also supported UN SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strong collaboration between faculty, student housing, and student volunteers. The enthusiastic participation of hostel residents reflected UN SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, promoting an inclusive and engaged campus environment.

A key highlight was the Research Mystery Maze, an interactive, clue-based challenge that encouraged students to apply critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and analytical reasoning—key 21st-century skills. By working collaboratively to solve research-related puzzles, participants gained a practical understanding of how to structure and design a survey study.

Students also took part in a Research Pitch Session, presenting their own ideas and receiving supportive feedback from faculty members. This strengthened their communication, innovation, and confidence—further reinforcing essential competencies for academic and professional growth. Additional engagement stations throughout the hall offered simplified research information and interactive elements, allowing students to continue learning at their own pace

The event received excellent participation from the student community, particularly hostel residents who also supported the setup and coordination. Faculty members from the College of Medicine were actively involved, offering guidance and insights that enriched the learning experience. Under the supervision of Dr. Sulagna, the event maintained a strong academic foundation while delivering an enjoyable and engaging themed experience.

Overall, the Winter Fest successfully achieved its objectives by increasing student interest in survey research, strengthening 21st-century skills, and contributing to a more vibrant research culture within the university. The blend of creativity, teamwork, and academic learning made the event a memorable and impactful experience for all who attended.
