The Office of Medical Services at Ajman University has been actively conducting ongoing smoking cessation awareness programs utilizing the Smokerlyzer as a screening and motivational tool. These initiatives aim to assess carbon monoxide levels, provide immediate feedback to participants, and encourage informed decision-making toward smoking cessation.
The use of the Smokerlyzer has had a significant positive impact in motivating individuals to come forward and seek help. By offering a non-invasive, confidential, and educational approach, the program helped reduce stigma and break the taboo often associated with smoking and seeking cessation support. Participants reported increased awareness of the health effects of smoking and a greater willingness to discuss their habits openly.
The program also served as a powerful visual and numerical representation of smoking-related harm, prompting self-reflection and fostering readiness to quit. Many participants expressed interest in follow-up counseling, cessation strategies, and support services offered by the Medical Services team.
Overall, these ongoing efforts have contributed to a noticeable shift in mindset among students and staff—from denial and hesitation to acceptance, awareness, and proactive health-seeking behavior. The initiative reflects Ajman University’s commitment to preventive healthcare and the promotion of a healthier campus community.
The Office of Medical Services will continue to strengthen these programs through regular screening events, education sessions, and collaborative support to sustain long-term behavior change and tobacco-free living till it become part of our health culture.
