The Center for Inclusive Learning Raises Students’ Awareness of Visual Impairment Challenges

The Center for Inclusive Learning at Ajman University organized a workshop titled “Pathfinders: Supporting Visually Impaired in Mobility,” delivered by Ms. Samah Abusniemah, Psychological Counselor at the Center. The workshop aimed to provide students with guidance and practical insights on how to support individuals with visual impairments, raise awareness about the importance of assistance that ensures safe mobility within the campus, and promote an inclusive learning environment based on the values of equality and accessibility.

The workshop featured an interactive activity titled “Walk in My Shoes,” which enabled students to experience some of the daily challenges faced by individuals with visual impairments. The activity deepened participants’ understanding of the difficulties associated with vision loss, strengthened their sense of empathy, and emphasized the importance of empowering this community to move with confidence. It also highlighted the need to establish safe and flexible educational environments that guarantee equal opportunities for all.

The session reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering justice and inclusion by engaging students in awareness-based initiatives that expand their understanding of the experiences of people of determination and instill values of positive community engagement. The workshop also witnessed active participation from students, who shared questions and suggestions on effective ways to support peers with visual challenges and interact with them in daily campus life.

This initiative is part of the Center for Inclusive Learning’s continuous efforts to enhance awareness of issues related to people of determination and to introduce awareness-driven programs that empower students to engage positively with all segments of society. The center reflects Ajman University’s vision of promoting inclusivity and social responsibility while preparing a generation equipped to contribute to building a more cooperative and equitable community.
