People of Determination Club Marks Emirati Day for Education: A Turning Point for Lasting Change

The People of Determination Club marked Emirati Day for Education with a powerful, community-centered workshop that aligned with the Office of Student Life's goals for community engagement. The workshop aimed to promote inclusion, empower People of Determination (POD), and showcase their creativity and talents. Led by Dr. Nagwa Yousif, Assistant Professor at the College of Humanities and Science, the session brought together students, families, and faculty in a collaborative setting designed to spark real dialogue and action.

From the start, this was more than a talk. It was a shared space for stories, insights, and plans. Dr. Nagwa guided participants through impactful storytelling, interactive discussions, and real-life success narratives shared by students and families. Key themes included resilience, the importance of family support, effective communication, equal access to education, and the role of inclusive education. These discussions connected classroom learning with life beyond campus. A dedicated session on communication strategies with People of Determination, led by Dr. Nagwa, further enriched participants' understanding and encouraged more empathetic and inclusive interactions.

The workshop demonstrated tangible impact by reinforcing that parents are the first and most important supporters of their POD children. Families shared their own success narratives, strengthening the partnership between home and university in shaping socially responsible and career-ready individuals. Participants left with a clearer understanding of available resources, ongoing communication pathways, and concrete steps to sustain engagement. The session also reinforced the role of families as active contributors to student success, rather than passive observers. By elevating family perspectives, the workshop helped shape more effective support networks, mentoring, and inclusive practices across campus life.

The initiative reinforced key elements of an inclusive educational environment by recognizing education as a universal right, appreciating the role of dedicated educators, and strengthening family engagement to create lasting impact. The momentum from Emirati Day for Education reflected a clear move toward a more collaborative and supportive space for students of determination and their communities. The People of Determination Club's workshop went beyond celebration. It created a blueprint for what comes next. As a result, future graduates will leave more socially responsible and career-ready, and the campus community will grow more inclusive and engaged with every step forward.
