Teaching Kids to Step in and Save a Life at Ajman Academy — A CPR Awareness Workshop

In a cardiac arrest, the worst thing you can do is nothing. Most cardiac arrests happen at home, in the office, or in public —not in a hospital. If a bystander starts CPR immediately, the victim's chance of survival can double or even triple. By doing CPR, you are maintaining the body’s internal environment so that when the medics arrive with advanced tools.

The CPR awareness workshop at Ajman Academy was more than an event—it was a turning point for fifth-grade students, equipping them with essential life-saving skills at an early age and embedding a sense of responsibility toward community health. Teaching CPR to young students matters because it builds foundational readiness before emergencies arise. This workshop demonstrated that age is not a barrier to saving lives; preparedness is.

The workshop was supervised by Dr. Ala’a Al Amiry, Senior Lecturer at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, whose guidance ensured a rigorous yet approachable learning experience. The initiative also aligns with the Office of Student Life, underscoring the role of academic programs in promoting practical education and community well-being. The collaboration between educators, health professionals, and student life leadership created a supportive setting where students could experiment, ask questions, and grow.

The workshop emphasized techniques aligned with the latest guidelines of the American Heart Association.  Participants engaged in guided, hands-on practice using CPR manikins, completing cycles of chest compressions and rescue breaths under real-time feedback. This practical approach helps students internalize the sequence of actions, recognize the signs of distress, and move from rote instruction to confident execution.

By teaching up-to-date methods, students gain skills that are not only relevant but also credible. This initiative illustrates how schools can partner with health professionals to deliver high-impact, accessible training that benefits entire communities. By empowering young students with life-saving skills, Ajman Academy contributes to a culture of preparedness that can ripple outward—into families, neighborhoods, and future generations.
