Pragmatic Training on Testing and Evaluation

The College of Law collaborated with the Human Resource Office to conduct a two-day training course at Ajman University. Dr. Randa Soliman, the Head of Teaching English as a Foreign Language Department at the College of Education and Basic Sciences prepared and conducted the training entitled “Writing Test Questions and Measuring the Targeted Learning Outcomes”.

The Faculty of the College of Law, along with College Dean, Dr. Lateefa Mohamed, attended the training and participated in the activities. The trainees participated in a variety of activities such as debating and discussing different viewpoints on assessment and evaluation. Dr. Randa, the trainer, highlighted the importance of employing effective teaching strategies as well as developing reliable and valid tests.

The trainees posed significant questions related to teaching, assessment and evaluation. The trainer attended to those questions and emphasized the importance of guiding learners to develop the skills of self- development, self-assessment and life-long learning. The trainees engaged in a workshop to articulate the learning outcomes of different courses at their specialization. Interactive strategies of brainstorming, discussion and cooperative learning were employed during the training.

Trainees were able to meet the outcomes of the training through developing test items that align with the learning outcomes of a number of courses at the College of Law. They reviewed the course descriptions and applied the criteria of articulating the learning outcomes and the tools of assessment. Towards the end of the training, the trainees made a good use of technology by using an interactive application to design a test.
