AU Students Stand out in Global Photography Contest

Despite the stiff competition from 135 teams worldwide, Ajman University (AU) students of biomedical engineering have managed to stand out and rank first in an international photography competition.

The prestigious contest is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology.

Students from different universities from around the globe were required to shoot a photo or video on a certain theme.

This year, there were three categories in the photo contest; humanitarian, social, technical. Each of these witnessed a different number of participants.

These included 15 teams in the ‘Humanitarian’ branch against 28 in the ‘Technical’ category, and 92 in the ‘Social’ section.

Ajman University team managed to impress the arbitration committee and earned the top place in the ‘Humanitarian’ category with inspiring photos on breast cancer.

The team, supervised by Eng. Mohamed Agam, consisted of seven biomedical engineering students.

These were Engy Hazem, Habeba Sarwat, Mariam Reda, Kathrina Baguyo, Yara Badr, Shahd Iraki, and Lina Naim.

Congratulating the winners, Dr. Fahar Hayati, Dean, College of Engineering, AU, said this was not the first time for his students to rank high in an international competition.

“My students are eager not only to chip in such competitions – be they local, regional or global, but rather secure top positions.”
