Ajman University Debuts in Times Higher Education Rankings, Ranks 4th Worldwide for International Students

We are delighted to announce that Ajman University has been included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THEWUR) for the first time. Considered one of the most respected ranking organizations in the world, THE has been providing trusted performance data on universities since 2004.

Most notable is the fact that Ajman University is listed 4th in the world for “International Students” in THEWUR 2022, which includes more than 1,600 universities across 99 countries. Because no other institution in the UAE, the GCC, or the MENA region ranks higher than AU in this category, we stand at the very top of our country and regions for percentage of international students.

AU’s debut appearance in THEWUR is under “Reporter” status – indicating that we are active participants in the rankings process even though we have not been formally ranked yet. To fully qualify for THE ranking, an institution must have 1000 or more Scopus-indexed publications in the past five years and at least 150 publications per year over the past five years.

AU has made incredible investments and gains in research output in recent years. With the number of Scopus-indexed publications from AU faculty increasing more than tenfold in less than five years, AU expects to reach the threshold for inclusion and become a ranked institution in THE WUR very soon.

“AU’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion has yet again earned us a dominant place on the global map of higher education. I appreciate and applaud the incredible teamwork involved in building one of the world’s best destinations for international students and the impressive improvement in the outcome of high-quality research,” said Ajman University Chancellor, Dr. Karim Seghir in an email announcement to AU faculty and staff.
