The Counseling Unit Celebrates World Mental Health Day 2024

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting mental health and raising community awareness, the Counseling Unit under the Deanship of Student Services at Ajman University organized an awareness event in celebration of World Mental Health Day 2024, observed annually on October 10.

This year’s event was held under the theme “Mental Health at Work,” highlighting the importance of creating supportive work environments that foster psychological well-being and improve overall quality of life in professional settings.

The event commenced with the Students’ Stations Tour, where students presented interactive booths addressing a variety of mental health topics. These activities aimed to raise awareness, encourage open dialogue, and promote a culture of mental well-being in a safe and engaging environment.

The first session featured a workshop titled “Stress Management and Adaptation for the Workplace,” delivered by Dr. Mosab Suleiman Hamad, Teaching and Training Specialist at the UAE Ministry of Education (Emirates Schools Establishment). The workshop provided practical techniques for managing workplace stress and enhancing emotional resilience. The session was moderated by Dr. Dalia Bedewy, Manager of the Counseling Unit.

The second session, titled “Cybercrimes and Their Impact on Individuals and Families,” was presented by Mr. Salem Mustafa Jasem Aljasmi from the Ajman Police General Headquarters, Community Police Department, and a student at the College of Humanities and Sciences. The session explored the psychological and social effects of cybercrimes and emphasized the importance of digital safety. Prof. Asma Alarab, Professor at the College of Humanities and Sciences, served as moderator.

The third session, “Social Media: Between Posting and Influence,” was delivered by Mr. Abdulrahman Wadi, an influencer, content creator, and student at the College of Engineering and IT. He addressed the psychological impact of social media usage and highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between digital identity and real-life presence. The session was moderated by Ms. Doaa Al Salti, Administrative Assistant at the Counseling Unit.

The event concluded with a session titled “Live with the Psychiatrist,” featuring Dr. Gabriel Andrade and Dr. Jigna Stott, both from the College of Medicine. This interactive discussion gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions and receive professional advice on managing stress and prioritizing mental well-being.

This initiative is part of Ajman University’s broader efforts to create a healthy, inclusive academic environment, where mental health is recognized as a vital component of student and staff success.
