Ajman University Students Win Third Place at Sharjah Tourism Innovation Hackathon 2025

Ajman University students achieved a remarkable milestone by securing third place at the Sharjah Tourism Innovation Hackathon 2025, launched by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority and co-organized with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the American University of Sharjah.

Held on November 1–2, 2025, the competition brought together 20 teams from universities across the UAE, who presented creative projects designed to leverage technology in improving visitor experiences and promoting sustainable tourism.

Ajman University’s winning team—Saima Bayoumi, Maryam Alshanqiti, Jon Regala, and Nouran Alasel—from the College of Engineering and Information Technology, specializing in Biomedical Engineering, presented their innovative project TRAIL/S, a website and future browser extension designed to address the lack of centralized accessibility information about tourist locations. The project focuses on serving people of determination and promoting the concept of inclusive tourism.

The team applied their biomedical engineering expertise to develop a feature that allows tourists to rent biomedical and assistive devices they may need during their stay, such as smart wheelchairs, blood pressure monitors, walking aids, and portable physiotherapy equipment. The project enhances mobility for people of determination and the elderly, ensuring a comfortable and accessible tourism experience for all.

This achievement reflects the College of Engineering and Information Technology’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of innovation and empower students to apply technical knowledge in developing solutions that serve the community and align with the UAE’s sustainable development goals.
